Photos of the MMM Cycle Challenge 2020

On Saturday 12th September 2020 our very own Managing Director and Technical Advisor Extraordinaire took part in the third annual Men’s Minds Matter Cycle Challenge. They traversed 16 miles of off-road terrain around the Ladybower Reservoir in the Peak District.

As a result, Jim and his team have raised over £3,000 (at the time of writing) for Men’s Minds Matter and Cavernoma Alliance UK. Access Security Products would like to thank all of our customers, suppliers and associates for their support with this event.

Men’s Minds Matter

Men’s Minds Matter is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the prevention of male suicide. They are passionate about reducing suicide rates for men through the development and provision of psychological crisis interventions.

Why Focus on Men?

When Men’s Minds Matter began in 2009 there was almost no support for men who were in crisis. Luckily, this has now changed with organisations such as CALM which are making a difference to lives all across the UK.

However, when you consider that around 75% of all UK suicides are male, more needs to be done to prevent men from reaching this crisis point. This is why Men’s Minds Matter is so important. They are constantly conducting research into the emotional triggers and what support needs to be made available to let men know that there are other ways to reduce their pain and suffering.

There is a wealth of information on their website: https://www.mensmindsmatter.org/

For anyone who knows Jim, he is a very lively and high-spirited person who will always go that extra mile for people. But at the beginning of 2020 he was incapacitated by a bleed on the brain (later diagnosed as a cavernoma). Luckily for us all he is making an excellent recovery and is back at work with the same determination as before, but with a renewed passion for life. But not everyone is as lucky as Jim.

According to Cavernoma Alliance UK 1 person in 600, in the UK, has a brain cavernoma without symptoms (asymptomatic). This equates to roughly 90,000 people – enough to fill Wembley Stadium.

Cavernoma are often diagnosed after a person has experienced symptoms which can include:-

  • haemorrhages
  • seizures
  • headaches
  • neurological deficits such as dizziness, slurred speech, double vision and tremors
  • weakness, numbness, tiredness, memory and concentration difficulties.

Cavernoma Alliance UK (also known as CAUK) is a charity created for people affected by cavernoma – otherwise known as cerebral cavernous malformation (CCM); cavernous haemangioma;  or cavernous angioma. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for all those affected and create greater awareness of the condition.
